Volta 4 - 3 Grilled
ear skies welcomed the 12000 spectators who had made their way to Voltarium Stadium.
Moritz Veltheim was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tero Kielo and
Vincenzo Giannini. Volta had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Cayo - Bauer, Rottermund, Das - Kappeln, Albrecht, Ronchi, Gurgone, Nica - Valečka, Levy.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. They fielded: Silvera - Crkvenjakov, Behr, bin Yaacob - Han Kok, Dorogan, Branbilla, 达荣 (Darong) - bin Mohamad, Salieri, Cunha Simões.
Grilled clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. With 17 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as
Martin Valečka flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Grilled's right side looked dangerous 21 minutes in, but
Edmundo Cayo made a good save on
Quah Han Kok's hard shot to the top corner. We may never know what
Gleb Dorogan was thinking when he tried to pass the ball through a crowd of opponents. Luckily for him, Volta's
Avraham Levy somehow missed the wide open net. Coming through the middle
Gleb Dorogan almost scored the equaliser for Grilled after 40 minutes, but
Edmundo Cayo made an excellent save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post. It was 1 - 0 at the break. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Grilled, with an impressive 54 percent possession of the ball.
Grilled needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 46 minutes
Ângelo Cunha Simões made way for
Martin Torsson. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Grilled's
Michele Salieri was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes.
Domenik Bögengang was given a chance to change things around.
Marcello Ronchi increased Volta's lead to 2 - 0, putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right. The structure of the game started to change as Volta decided to pull back and meet their opponents in their own half. Grilled was determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Grilled were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 66 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to
Martin Torsson, who smashed it home to make the score 2 - 1.
Martin Valečka of Volta was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. After 74 minutes, Grilled's
Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. After 79 minutes,
Kevin Albrecht put Volta ahead 3 - 1 when he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side.
封 (Feng) 达荣 (Darong) made one of his many fine passes from the wing into the middle 83 minutes into the match.
Domenik Bögengang bravely attempted to execute a diving header and the ball was met firmly with his forehead for Grilled. 3 - 2.
Quah Han Kok levelled the score for Grilled, making it 3 - 3 on a free kick that went in by way of the right post. After 85 minutes Volta's
Marcello Ronchi limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. After 85 minutes,
Kevin Albrecht came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to put away the 4 - 3 goal, giving Volta the lead. Grilled held the ball, with a clear 52 percent of possession.
The most dominating Volta player was without a doubt
Gene Gurgone.
Fabian Rottermund on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Domenik Bögengang performed admirably for Grilled. On the other hand,
Alvaro Silvera's play was disheartening. The match ends 4 - 3.
