Grilled 6 - 8 Polar
ather conditions were fairly good for football, and The Cooking Pot saw a crowd turnout of 81125.
Kornel Tycner was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Dmitry Baluev and
Pierpaolo Storani. Everyone was excited about the upcoming
West derby and the crowd was divided evenly. A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. The following players had been chosen: Dias Paes - Árva, Behr, Talib - Penati, Branbilla, Han Kok, Dorogan - Rotteveel, Bögengang, bin Mohd Kassim.
Polar decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players took the field: Zorić - Panas, Anderholt, Mollard, Richards - Hart Nibbrig, Zach, Petit, Blanco - Evia, Broenner-Wedel.
For their match strategy, Grilled had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Grilled took the lead after 17 minutes, as a result of
Domenik Bögengang's awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. 1 - 0. Grilled's
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim was shown a yellow card after 32 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed Polar's
Nils Broenner-Wedel a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 37 minutes into the game. Given a free kick at a sharp angle, Polar went for a variation that loyal fans may recognize from training. A sideways passing move moved the defence out of position and let
Noreno Blanco slip through on goal. No hesitation - and it's 1 - 1, 39 minutes into the game. One of many good passes from
Ciro Penati at the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by
Maikel Rotteveel, scoring the 2 - 1 goal for Grilled. Halftime score was 2 - 1. Polar held the ball, with a clear 56 percent of possession.
Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Polar manager used a brief break in play after 50 minutes to give the players new directives. 51 minutes in, Grilled's
Matthias Branbilla received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. As the game started to slip away for Polar, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. With 60 minutes played, the Polar coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
Patricio Vélez came on,
Claudio Daniel Mollard had to leave the fray. The crowd was silenced 66 minutes into the match as the visiting team's
Georg Zach came in from the left, levelling the score to 2 - 2. Polar had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 72 minutes in when
Lionel Richards came up alone against
Valdir Dias Paes who managed a block. In a rapid move 74 minutes into the match,
Maikel Rotteveel of Grilled lost his man, passed the ball to the unmarked
Domenik Bögengang who easily hit it home for the 3-2 goal. After 78 minutes, Polar sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
Manuel Evia, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot and score the 3 - 3 goal. Grilled's
Quah Han Kok got himself booked for a foul. With 86 minutes played, Polar's
Patrik Anderholt fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked
Patrik Anderholt for diving. Polar claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 60 percent.
Not having decided a winner at the end of regulation, the match went into extra time. After a fine move down the middle
Gleb Dorogan nearly gave the home side a goal after 98 minutes. The finishing shot went just wide, though. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when
Patrik Anderholt slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against
Valdir Dias Paes, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. After overtime, the game was still tied and a penalty contest ensued.
Grilled's
Maikel Rotteveel showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalty contests, easily changing the score to 4 - 3. When it comes to placing a ball precisely,
Damien Petit is a real wizard. He put it safely away for Polar to make the score 4 - 4. Grilled's
Domenik Bögengang looked insecure all the way from laying the ball down to clipping the ball miles wide of the crossbar. No goal. Polar's
Manuel Evia was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 4 - 5! Grilled's
Valdir Dias Paes coolly put the ball past
Dragan Zorić. 5 - 5. Polar's
Georg Zach made no mistake.
Valdir Dias Paes didn't have a chance. 5 - 6. Grilled's
Nawaz Talib kept his cool as he faced down
Dragan Zorić. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 6 - 6. Polar's
Lionel Richards kept his cool as he faced down
Valdir Dias Paes. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 6 - 7. Grilled's
Quah Han Kok drove the ball hard to the corner but couldn't get it past a stretched out arm of
Dragan Zorić. The score remains 6 - 7. Polar's
Patrik Anderholt coolly put the ball past
Valdir Dias Paes. 6 - 8.
The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Valdir Dias Paes.
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim was a disappointment, however. Polar's best player was
Manuel Evia. However,
Alewijn Hart Nibbrig made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 6 - 8.
