Target Torsson
A day after announcing that eight of the club's youngsters were available for the right price, Grilled captured multiskilled Swedish teenager
Martin Torsson for an eye-catching S$832 000, their first purchase after 28 straight sales, and the most paid for a trainee since the heady days of Dani Spirig and Lorenz Paullin, back when Grilled had their first stint in the S-League.
The club beat off keen competition from FC Schien und Wadenbeinbruch e.V (German Division Ten), HENING FC (Bulgarian Division Six), Görnä (Finnish Division Seven) and alingo (Romanian Division Seven), among a host of interested parties.
"This represents a key shift in Grilled's priorities." a club spokesman declared. "We have been stagnating for too long, and regrettably, our team has aged considerably."
"As it would be completely unrealistic to hope to promote back into the top flight with our current squad, we will be concentrating on injecting fresh blood at all positions. Torsson, who is equally at home up front, in midfield, or on the wings, is an example of the talent we are after."
Grilled also reportedly had an eye on another youngster similar to Torsson, Austrian Peter Frick of Die Raben, but with a possible upcoming change at the helm, were unwilling to expend all their transfer funds at one go.
