Chemistry Choke, Old Faces Back
Two-time S-League champions Chemistry were sensationally relegated today, as the winners of II.4, mist, sped to an inexplicable 0-3 lead twenty minutes into their qualifier at The Acidic City. Chemistry were marginally better in almost all departments, but mist's slippery Finnish winger Ville-Mikko Rännare made all the difference down the left wing.
Though Rännare didn't score, his influence was enough as Chemistry fought back through Oh Dong Tse, Martin eleznik and Qin Caen-Khim, but never managed to draw level as mist twice extended their lead. The shock defeat calls to a close six consecutive and trophy-laden seasons in the top flight for Chemistry, and would have been unthinkable just a few months ago.
Quintessential giant Herron, who have never known life outside the S-League, hung on after a by their standards disastrous fifth-place finish, only the second one in their history. Robbie Football Club angled for their first taste of the top division after dominating II.1, but despite managing to come back from 2-0 down to 2-2, fell to a cracking finish by Herron's faithful servant, Shu Chit-Fu.
Team Singapore return to the S-League after being absent for three seasons, having competed eleven times and won once. Rank newcomers Arrogancae join them after a meteoric rise, being in the fourth division just four seasons ago. An all-rounded attacking side who alternate between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3, they have been billed as being a joy to watch.
