After long weeks of barrenness, the Youth Wings Academy can finally unveil a potential first-teamer some years down the road. 17 year-old
Lee Jie Siong was scouted by goalkeeping coach Huang Li Da.
Huang recounts the minutes he spent watching Lee lording it over his opponents in a friendly pickup game at a nearby ITE. "I saw him gliding along as if he were already a second-year academy footballer. Though my speciality is goaltenders, one needs just rudimentary knowledge of soccer to know that he was something."
Huang tipped an academy director through cellphone against protocol, and persuaded Lee to showcase his skills half an hour later when the director, David Tong, arrived. David was so impressed that he offered the excited teenager schoolboy terms on the spot.
"He reminds many of
Quah Han Kok," Huang continued. "We'll possibly throw him into the deep end against Division Four side Pressholisi in midweek. I'm confident he can make it."
