Harlow, Clair
Frank Öhmo swooped for an 18 year-old keeper,
Clair Harlow, divesting Grilled of their season's surplus funds in the S$7.2 million move, the second largest in Grilled history. Other than a good season of keeping goal for previous owner Daily Beers S.C., who promoted to the Romanian Fifth Division on the back of his saves, the New Zealander Harlow has few other credentials.
Öhmo, defending the first prominent buy of his tenure, was sure that his energy would put him in good stead. "There were times when I felt that I couldn't go on when I played last season." Öhmo insisted. "Age can do that to a player, and Harlow will have many good years ahead." The outspoken Harlow was not shy about selling himself, but conceded that the pressure will be immense.
Most fans were not impressed judging from a straw poll, however. "Eighteen and our first-choice goalie? Good luck, boys, that's all I got to say." Grilled fan Joseph Yeong said. "And I don't know why the coaches like bringing in footballers with sissy names, first Andrea, now Clair, what next? Betty?"
