Merlion Miguel
Unlike Chai Yew-Hoe's raucous sendoff a week ago,
Miguel Reed's leaving went almost unnoticed. With only a tiny group of supporters to see him off, Reed didn't even have to slow down to sign his last autographs at Grilled Birds. It could be because he is just moving ten kilometres south-east to City club Gold Merlions, of course. The Division Three Merlions got his signature for S$290000, a slight discount over the S$330000 the Birds had paid for him. Reed revealed that he had actually been asking for a move. "I want to play soccer, not sit on benches. Grilled Birds do not offer me first-team football anymore, and Gold Merlions will." The American, who hit the last of his twenty-odd goals for Grilled in the 5-0 thrashing of City Dolphins in the first match of this season, plans to install himself as the Merlions' top scorer.
