STLFANS 4 - 2 Grilled

57 punters turned up at STLFANS Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Gao Pak-kin was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Anton Stadlbauer and André Caetano. STLFANS started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. They fielded: Hayes - Zarza, Moore, Wilson, Dunbar - Castle, Main, Knutsson, Rudolph - Fortier, Krueger.

Grilled tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Semprún Balenciaga - Ong, Tuan-Mu, Sun-Nee - Hua, Magnusson, García Sole, Tellskär, Pence - Chiew-Yen, Hobson.

1 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but Chen Chiew-Yen, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Grilled's Tan Ong got himself booked. Lon Fortier gave STLFANS the lead with 1 - 0, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the keeper's right post. Grilled levelled the score after 24 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as Tan Ong struck home after a fine midfield combination through the middle, leaving him completely unmarked. Man, what a shot by Grilled's Tim Hobson" alt="Tim Hobson">Tim Hobson! Firing in from 35 yards after 33 minutes, that is probably going to be one of the finest, most beautiful, wonderfully crafted strikes the crowd here today are ever likely to see. 1 - 2. The STLFANS equaliser came after 38 minutes when Lesley Main floated in a free kick making the score 2 - 2. STLFANS's David Wilson got himself booked for a foul. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 2. STLFANS held the ball, with a clear 56 percent of possession.

STLFANS took the lead 66 minutes into the game by 3 to 2, as Bill Krueger elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Grilled's Xing Hua got himself booked. Lon Fortier increased STLFANS's lead to 4 - 2, putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right. The structure of the game started to change as STLFANS decided to pull back and meet their opponents in their own half. Unsportsmanlike behaviour by Tan Ong rendered him his second booking of the match, and Grilled had to finish the game with a reduced squad. Bill Krueger should probably have put his team up another goal after 83 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by Tomás Semprún Balenciaga kept the visitors in the game. With 87 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, Rafael García Sole needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. STLFANS claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.

STLFANS's best player was Carlos Zarza. Joshua Castle was a disappointment, however. Grilled's best player was Lan Tuan-Mu. Peter Magnusson on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 2.
