WFC 0 - 1 Grilled
ouds darkened the skies at WuMing Arena as 50590 spectators turned up for the match.
Kevin Budweiser was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alejandro Rubio and
Bobbie van Herpen. WFC started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players took the field: McWilliams - Smeets, Ascenzo, Martins - Pinternagel, Pellicer, Karo, Zhigalko, Camargo - Breitung, Sabir.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. Starters: Dias Paes - Ãrva, Lik-Tsun, Talib, 剑勇 (Jianyong) - Penati, Branbilla, Han Kok, è¾¾è£ (Darong) - Rotteveel, bin Ku Zainol.
Grilled clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. WFC's
Mario Camargo was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 15 minutes. The guests almost went up by a goal after 33 minutes when
Maikel Rotteveel came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed WFC's
Tom Breitung a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 35 minutes into the game. With 40 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
Ciro Penati put the ball away for 0 - 1. There was concern in the stands when, at the 42 minute mark, Grilled's
Quah Han Kok hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. It was 0 - 1 at the break. WFC held the ball, with a clear 67 percent of possession.
WFC's
Vick Smeets put his head to a high ball coming in from the right after 48 minutes, but the ball went wide.
胡 (Hu) 剑勇 (Jianyong) suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing, when a counterattack by Grilled caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. 50 minutes in, Grilled's
Nawaz Talib received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. WFC's
Ignasi Pellicer refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 52 minutes. WFC's
Ignasi Pellicer almost tied things up with 64 minutes played after breaking through on the right, but his shot deflected off the post. This half belonged to WFC, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.
WFC's best player was
Mikhail Zhigalko. However,
Vick Smeets made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Valdir Dias Paes.
胡 (Hu) 剑勇 (Jianyong) was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 1.
