Grilled 1 - 0 WFC
ercast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 54435 at The Cooking Pot today.
Jos Budts was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Kristian Raunio and
Eugenio Hernández. Grilled had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Starters: Dias Paes - bin Mustapa, Lik-Tsun, Talib - Penati, Branbilla, MacKinnon, Han Kok, è¾¾è£ (Darong) - Rotteveel, bin Ku Zainol.
WFC decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: McWilliams - Smeets, Wicky, Ascenzo - Pinternagel, Horvat, Pellicer, Zhigalko, Galfano - Breitung, Sabir.
The wings were the focus of most of WFC's attacks on this day. Grilled were awarded a penalty 16 minutes into the game but
Maikel Rotteveel produced a poor shot, quite easily saved by
Colin McWilliams.
Han Lik-Tsun gave Grilled the lead with 1 - 0, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the keeper's right post.
John MacKinnon unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed WFC's
Gumercindo Ascenzo a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 41 minutes into the game. 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. WFC held the ball, with a clear 51 percent of possession.
WFC's right side looked dangerous 49 minutes in, but
Valdir Dias Paes made a good save on
Vick Smeets's hard shot to the top corner. The referee showed Grilled's
Nawaz Talib the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. In a fantastic display of determination, WFC's
Tom Breitung forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down. WFC claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Most important Grilled player was
Valdir Dias Paes.
Badrul Afzan bin Mustapa turned in a dismal performance, however.
Mikhail Zhigalko performed admirably for WFC. On the other hand,
Tom Breitung's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 0.
