Athletic 2 - 0 Grilled
073 spectators had found their way to The Igloo, despite the heavy rain.
Monckton Murdak was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Gabor Moser and
Andy de Prada. Athletic decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. They fielded: Sun Tae - Marante, Eltschinger, bin Shariff - Loesmann, Shi Yeow, Kerttula, Ying Eng - Chazanas, Stuivenberg, Gil.
Grilled started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Starters: Dias Paes - Ãrva, Lik-Tsun, Talib - Penati, Branbilla, MacKinnon, Han Kok, è¾¾è£ (Darong) - Rotteveel, bin Ku Zainol.
Augusto Gil had a difficult time on the field; the muddy surface was clearly affecting his technique. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Athletic held the ball, with a clear 56 percent of possession.
Nawaz Talib came close to putting the visiting team one up 53 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Li Sun Tae managed to tip the ball to a corner.
Alfred Eltschinger didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain. Athletic's
Lim Ying Eng tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. After a fine move down the middle
Alfred Eltschinger nearly gave the home side a goal after 80 minutes. The finishing shot went just wide, though. After 82 minutes, the home side was awarded a penalty. The visitors protested wildly but the referee was adamant.
Simão Marante easily put the 1 - 0 goal away to give the lead to Athletic.
Alfred Eltschinger increased Athletic's lead to 2 - 0, putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right. After this, Athletic lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts. Grilled's
å° (Feng) è¾¾è£ (Darong) was shown a yellow card after 88 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Simão Marante was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Athletic's
Rémi Chapon had to come off the bench. Athletic enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 58 percent of possession.
Most important Athletic player was
Liu Shi Yeow.
Rémi Chapon was a disappointment, however.
Valdir Dias Paes performed admirably for Grilled.
Han Lik-Tsun turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 0.
