Woofers 4 - 3 Grilled
ercast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 66635 at The Pump today.
Alis Wassenbergh was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Valery Duginov and
Rolf Jorissen. Woofers tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Mardones - Tomov, Treur, Spaskov - Månsson, Rondeau, Enero, Garrido, bin Adenan - Limberg, Østmo.
Grilled started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Dias Paes - Lik-Tsun, Árva, Talib - Penati, Branbilla, MacKinnon, Spirig, Han Kok - Rotteveel, bin Ku Zainol.
For their match strategy, Grilled had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. One of many good passes from
Quah Han Kok at the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by
Maikel Rotteveel, scoring the 0 - 1 goal for Grilled. A series of fine plays up the middle should have led to a goal for Woofers, but
David Østmo's shot went over the bar. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Woofers's
Dimitar Tomov got himself booked. After 28 minutes of play,
Stéphane Rondeau evened things up for Woofers with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 1 - 1. 29 minutes into the match Grilled's
Nawaz Talib head butted an opponent nastily, and so the referee sent him off immediately. After 31 minutes
Maikel Rotteveel made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to
Subri bin Ku Zainol who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 1 - 2. After 34 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Subri bin Ku Zainol who increased Grilled's lead to 1 - 3. 1 - 3 was the halftime score. Woofers claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
At 49 minutes into the game, Woofers's
Dimitar Tomov deftly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 2 - 3. After a fatal mistake from the away team's right side defence 72 minutes into the match, an alert
Dimitar Tomov bagged the ball for Woofers, levelling the score to 3 - 3.
David Østmo's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal up the middle after 78 minutes gave Woofers the 4 - 3 lead.
Zhang Thien An was called on to replace Woofers's
Geert-Jan Treur after 87 minutes following a nasty collision. Woofers enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
Woofers's top performer was clearly
Lluís Mardones. On the other hand,
Zhang Thien An's play was disheartening. Grilled's best player was
Valdir Dias Paes.
Ciro Penati on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 3.
