Grilled 2 - 3 Warrior

irly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 87794 to The Cooking Pot. Wilfried Giesbergen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by René Steinheber and Ferdynand Woldański. Grilled started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Dias Paes - Talib, Lik-Tsun, Árva - Penati, Branbilla, MacKinnon, Spirig, Han Kok - Rotteveel, bin Ku Zainol.

Warrior had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: bin Zainal - Kok-Hao, Nunn, Tian Chin - bin Moidony, Ming-Foo, Habets, Yi-Ping, Knebelsberger - Rosado, Kang-yin.

Grilled clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Warrior. Warrior's Wu Kang-yin gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 7 minutes with a superb strike from the right. In a rapid move 15 minutes into the match, Quah Han Kok of Grilled lost his man, passed the ball to the unmarked Subri bin Ku Zainol who easily hit it home for the 1-1 goal. Grilled fans held their breath as Ciro Penati scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the go-ahead goal for 2-1! The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 26 minutes, Bernd Knebelsberger broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper. Valdir Dias Paes made a great block, though. Warrior's Bai Ming-Foo was shown a yellow card after 29 minutes for slicing down an opponent. A loud groan was heard from the fans of Grilled, as Maikel Rotteveel left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob took his place on the field. The visitors didn't give in and, after 32 minutes, Gordon Rosado got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 2 - 2. 2 - 2 was the score after the first half. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Grilled, with an impressive 51 percent possession of the ball.

With 67 minutes played Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Grilled's Ciro Penati got himself booked. Valdir Dias Paes looked great 85 minutes into the match after stopping a shot by the visitors' Bernd Knebelsberger. Ciro Penati remonstrated furiously with the referee after Grilled had another decision go against them. The referee had no alternative but to show him another yellow card and send him from the pitch. After 87 minutes, Warrior sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached Wu Kang-yin, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot and score the 2 - 3 goal. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Subri bin Ku Zainol. Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob turned in a dismal performance, however. Warrior's best player was Afandi bin Zainal. On the other hand, Mao Kok-Hao's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 3.
