Grilled 5 - 4 Jihad

ear skies welcomed the 3485 spectators who had made their way to El-Ahly Arena. Tommy Jansson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Andrea Frascone and Edouard Léoni. The match took place on neutral ground. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. The following players took the field: Dias Paes - Deme, Alcántara, Seng-Huat, bin Selamat - 达荣 (Darong) , Fjällbratt, Han Kok, Chowdhury - Mirchev, bin Yaacob.

Jihad had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Gustavsson - Håkansson, Stensson, Kyhlland - Gridasovas, Frestadius, Naujoks, Krička, Kerremans - Josefsson, Ranman.

Jihad had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 17 minutes in when Charles Josefsson came up alone against Valdir Dias Paes who managed a block. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Jihad enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 68 percent of possession.

Jihad had to make a substitution after 47 minutes. Mats Gustavsson limped off the field and was replaced by Stefan Tjäderby. A header from Armontas Gridasovas connected with a corner kick after 52 minutes, and the ball ended up with Ids Kerremans of Jihad who shot home the 0-1 goal. Grilled tried to even things up by sending a long play towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. Peter Fjällbratt sailed high above the opponents as he headed the 1-1 goal in on a corner kick from Quah Han Kok after 70 minutes of play. With 75 minutes played, Grilled's Sándor Deme fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Sándor Deme for diving. This half belonged to Jihad, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.

As neither team was able to get the go-ahead goal before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time. Erik Kyhlland of Jihad received a yellow card after 92 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Ids Kerremans came close to putting the visiting team one up 97 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but Valdir Dias Paes managed to tip the ball to a corner. There was still no winner after 30 minutes of extra time so the teams had to select a lineup for a penalty contest to settle the result.

Grilled's Quah Han Kok coolly put the ball past Stefan Tjäderby. 2 - 1. Jihad's Immo Naujoks penalty shot was very well placed but Valdir Dias Paes went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 2 - 1. Grilled's Valdir Dias Paes made no mistake. Stefan Tjäderby didn't have a chance. 3 - 1. Jihad's Anders Stensson was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 3 - 2! Clearly nervous from the start, Grilled's Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob's attempt sailed far wide of the goal. The score remains 3 - 2. Jihad's Lovro Krička made no mistake. Valdir Dias Paes didn't have a chance. 3 - 3. Clearly nervous from the start, Grilled's Ivaylo Mirchev's attempt sailed far wide of the goal. The score remains 3 - 3. Jihad's Filip Ranman penalty shot was very well placed but Valdir Dias Paes went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 3 - 3. Grilled's Peter Fjällbratt showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalty contests, easily changing the score to 4 - 3. The crowd was awed by Armontas Gridasovas's finely placed shot for Jihad making it 4 - 4. A confident Luis Alcántara of Grilled put the ball right where he wanted, but Stefan Tjäderby was right there for the save. No goal. Jihad's Stefan Tjäderby was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of Valdir Dias Paes. Score still 4 - 4. Grilled's Weng Seng-Huat looked insecure all the way from laying the ball down to clipping the ball miles wide of the crossbar. No goal. Jihad's René Frestadius didn't hesitate but Valdir Dias Paes managed the save, resulting in an unchanged 4 - 4 score. Grilled's Sándor Deme showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalty contests, easily changing the score to 5 - 4. Jihad's Ids Kerremans penalty shot was very well placed but Valdir Dias Paes went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 5 - 4.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Valdir Dias Paes. Luis Alcántara turned in a dismal performance, however. Jihad's top performer was clearly Immo Naujoks. Stefan Tjäderby was a disappointment, however. The match ends 5 - 4.
