The visitors refused to give up and, after 63 minutes, Quah Han Kok scored the tying 1 - 1 goal as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. Many thought Syamsul bin Md Johadi ought to have been awarded a penalty shot 85 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around Ahmed Abed-Sulaiman after a determined run through the middle. Singapore claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.

As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called. Mohd Satar bin Mohamed knocked the corner to ZhangCai Khoi-Khoa who had the whole net open before him, but his attempt hit the post.
