Mooks Go South
It went largely unnoticed given the general fixation on Grilled Birds' first Singapore Cup final in nearly two decades, but Farmer Bunnies and Grilled International would pull out victories from their friendlies. The Buns entertained Belgian V.85 invitees Vamos Ghent at Carrot Field, and won 2-0 after young Spanish goalie David Antonio Raya had somehow kept
Lim Guang Qiang's stinger out, in the 29th minute.
Arturo Rosano converted a penalty five minutes on, and Lim got his goal anyway after 61 minutes, helped by
Guan Ming Kum's seemingly-premature cross.
Grilled International meanwhile took on premier Johannesburg club, The Mooks of South Africa, and ran up a 6-2 result at their Stadium de Mooks. The II.3 side had been enduring some hard times in league competition, and this would be reflected in their inconsistency on the pitch, despite the presence of stars such as the much-decorated Nigel Clerkin. Playmaker Kanyama Legodi, formerly of current SA Premier League team Candice Swanepoel FC, claimed both their goals, while
Snæbjörn Sigfússon did the same for International, with the fast-growing
Nabil bin Mohd Zulkhairi rounding off the scoring in the 69th minute.
Hardi bin Besar praised Nabil, who had also created Sigfússon's first goal by blowing through the Mooks defence with sheer pace. "He has the raw attributes to strike fear in most backlines. If he continues working hard, I think he can make it really big."
