Kendell Qualified
Grilled Birds would get their first pair of brothers in the senior squad, as they inducted 18 year-old junior
Kendell El Khateeb from the Chicken Wings today, with proud elder sibling
Mohsen El Khateeb in attendance. Kendell chose the long-vacant Number 42 jersey, and for good reason. "I came ten years after my bro, so it makes sense that my number is ten more than his too!"
While there is some resemblance between the pair, Mohsen readily admitted that their familial relationship is not obvious at first glance. "Ken always put on weight more easily." the longtime Birds reserve explained. "But don't be fooled, the guy can run!"
Birds scout Mok Feng De was likewise pleased for his protege, but admitted that Kendell had perhaps not fulfilled his full potential. "He was arguably our brightest academy star when he registered, and I'm not being biased just because I was the one who seconded his application." Mok recounted. "Well, he's developed into a good midfielder for his age... but one can't help but think that it could have been so much more."
Well, unlike many other promising young footballers, Kendell will have all the support he needs at Grilled Birds, to take the next step. "He needs to turn up for practice more regularly - he had to be retained at the Wings mostly because of that." Mok continued. "We're all hoping that the added responsibility will get him to work harder."
