19 year-old Chicken Wings academy defender Derick Chiou was given a chance by Orchard's Afterglow F.C today, as the Division Five offshoot of Iran's F.C.Tehran signed him as part of their initial recruitment wave; notably, he was Willy Singh's only local purchase, amongst their first ten acquisitions.
That Chiou had been offered a contract despite being overaged did not surprise Wings scout Tham Beng Li, who described him as probably the youth team's top man at the back. "Derick has all the tools a competent defender needs, and is a natural in bringing the ball up too, so important in this day and age."
