Snæb Snapped Up
Grilled International made their first major buy in over three seasons - since the acquisition of goalkeeper
Darshana De Abrew - as they laid out just over S$4 million for 30 year-old Icelandic winger
Snæbjörn Sigfússon. Sigfússon comes with quite the winning record, having earned six league titles; three with hometown club Sugarcubes F.C. in Division Three, and three with Germany's SG Ebbelwoi-Crew, in VI.287.
There would be a short two-season stay in Austria with severiner mineralwasser in between, and while Sigfússon might not have fully lived up to expectations, with his price tag dropping from S$13 million to S$9 million afterwards, he was nevertheless recognized as the club's most improved player then. All in all,
Didi Reidenbach regarded him as quite the bargain.
"He's just what we need to beef up the attack, as we transition to a more advanced training regime." the much-maligned head coach informed. "As a top set-piece specialist, he will add a lot to us in that dimension too!"
Sigfússon will wear the Number Eight with International formerly belonging to Sabli bin Huzaimi, after the club beat off repeated offers from Brazilian IV.13 leaders Estrela Solitária RJ. Former Bees boy and Brunei international midfielder Timbang bin Hj Mohd Hendra is a bridge too far for Reidenbach, however, despite him being reportedly available for near S$8 million from Spain's Guia F.C.. "Great player, but unfortunately he doesn't fit into our plans at the moment."
