Once described as a "hot prospect scorer", Phua graduated from the youth academy slightly less lethal that had been hoped, but with a good grounding in all the fundamentals.

Offered a short-term contract by Grilled, Phua thereafter languished in the reserves, with a single substitute appearance against Matrix101 in the cup for the injured Mirchev. He was released by his own request after three seasons without a game.
