Final League Table Position Summary III.1
Under A Cloud

Grilled Birds had to be somewhat anxious for promotion given two second-place finishes in succession, but fate would deal them a third as they were unable to protect their lead in the final round of matches against Phantasm Hotspurs. They didn't even do anything really wrong as Evandro La Face came good with an excellent brace, but Hotspurs simply exploded to a 5-3 win... before getting roundly denied by CE Sindiket 07 anyway.

It was a downer end to what had otherwise been a pretty sweet season for Grilled, if marred by a relatively slow start in which they drew with Hotspurs and Controlar, and got upset by Mayuyu AKB48, in the first four games. Nine straight league wins then planted the Birds firmly atop the table, but was not quite enough to see them safe yet, as Hotspurs reminded. In the meantime, Joe Reece came into his own with his breakout goal-a-game season, as the Birds recruited especially strongly mid-season by acquiring Gústav Thoroddsen and Evandro La Face for over S$27 million in total. This however had the club under investigation for questionable financial dealings after excessive bids for their trainees, which took a very nervous month before it got cleared up - not that it affected their on-pitch performance.

Thoroddsen and La Face weren't enough to defeat eventual Sapphire Challenger Cup winners United Legends FC in the semifinals, though, as the Legends completed their own domestic cup collection with Fred Cui striking twice in their 5-2 win, before nudging Real Batigol out 2-1 in the final. The Birds could hardly account this a bad campaign given that they only lost to S-League side and defending holders Haha on penalties in the main competition, and would even notch a respectable 1-2 loss to Austrian doublewinners Churchhill United in the Trophy of Legends. Italian Serie A team L' Araba fenice then thrashed them 7-0 on the last day of the Supporter Week Trophy, granted, but the Birds were about done after a long season by then.

In contrast, Farmer Bunnies would take their Division Three league despite being far less dominating than the Birds on the whole, as they pieced together just about enough small wins to make it back to the top by Week Eleven, before staying there with two wins and a draw. Brighton UK proved their equal by holding them one-all each time they met, while second-placed Really McCoys defeated them twice, but the Buns would impressively grab full points from all their remaining fixtures despite their indifferent offensive output. Here, Ho Ah Kian and Amaya Ravula would prove invaluable by scrabbling together goals and assists when it mattered, and the duo would rightly be honoured with end-of-season awards. It remained somewhat telling that Ho became the Buns' top scorer in the league with just four, that said.

The Buns would drop to the Consolation Cup quickly enough with successive defeats to Singapore Red Dragons and Pearl Divers, and like the Birds got to the semifinals of the competition, before they were dumped out by leaguemates FC Phondle 3-1, who thanks to Adli Jamal's brace managed what they could not in league play. Toh Eng Guang would continue being an unexpected homegrown success story as he got up to six youth caps whilst solidifying his place as one of the Buns' top defenders, as Vishnu Tallapaka shelled out close to S$11 million for his Young Lions defensive teammate Prakash Bhujbal.

There was little enough to say about Grilled International despite their racking up the meaningless wins against the dregs, as they failed to take any of the four games that would define their league campaign. Eventual champions Amelinho Kickers would beat them twice, while draws with AC Rabissale helped neither club's ambitions. A first round H.I. cup loss to Krumshoes Inter would be followed soon after by a 2-5 in the Emerald Challenger Cup to Internationale Angst, but Didi Reidenbach would remain at the helm with the management apparently satisfied with the ongoing state of affairs, what with Chua Jun Long bringing in the crowd with a twenty-goal season.
