Two Together
Success returned as both Grilled Birds and Farmer Bunnies won their respective Division Three leagues, at the fifth and seventh attempts respectively. Not a moment too soon either, with so many of their players having entered their prime.
For Grilled, the final push was Noubaryan's willingness to splurge on stars, as the head coach added Massoud Dob, Bilal Mohammad Harun and Gilbert Webb, all for over S$10 million individually. It was still hardly a cakewalk in III.15, what with -Blitz- and newbies joined by champion-calibre challengers in Ropelearner FC and ~Pollen~.
~Pollen~ and Ropelearner in particular had the Birds drop five points in their early-season meetings, but Grilled then went on a roll, winning their next ten in the league; -Blitz- would finally stop them on the last day, but Grilled had done enough to capture the title on goal difference, and would go on to oust The Sing Tigers to return to II.2.
It likewise took the biggest of guns to eject Grilled from the cups, although reigning national champions Parkway Paladins on another level altogether. They got much closer against a Be Champions FC that was not quite as invincible as they once were, but fell short to Adnan Kodra's 84th minute winner.
Farmer Bunnies were somewhat more of a disappointment in cup competition, tamely losing to United Legends FC in the Singapore Cup before going out on penalties to Arrogancae in the Sapphire secondary, but they were absolutely unbeatable in III.11. With only Puh erh managing a draw against the distracted Buns mid-season, it was clear that Farmer Bunnies had outgrown their home.
They didn't need many reinforcements to achieve that either, with new forward Sim Leng Cheng having arrived with only a month to go, and despite Ibrahim Zahran Al-Maashany hitting a rough patch of form. On the youth front, the Rancher Rabbits made some waves with the graduation of Ho Ah Kian and Ho Meng Feng (unrelated), and time will soon tell if they live up to expectations.
On the world stage, Tham Leng Teck and Morgan Hu carried the Singaporean flag, with the former in particular having established himself as first-choice left-back for the Singapore Lions. Sadly, they would barely miss out on qualifying for the next round in a tough group.
Grilled International made no effort to hide their objective of surviving in Division Five, and they did just that, finishing in fifth place before an easy qualifier whitewash. S$6 million signing Fausto Perono tweaked plenty of noses when he first came, but there was no question that he could back his ego up with results, as he finished as league top scorer by the end of a superlative personal campaign - a feat duplicated by the Birds' Kalki Parvathaneni, and the Buns' Enzo Paolo Panzarino.
