Final League Table Position Summary S-League
Flattering To Deceive

It was briefly the best of seasons, but it then all crumbled to dust at the end, with the Birds' dual bid for the elusive S-League title and sole remaining Challenger Cup coming to nothing at the end. It could have been the crowning achievement of a quite unique homegrown dynasty, but age caught up with Grilled's warriors just as they could feel the title in their grasp.

Then again, few brave souls had prophesied such an adventure for Grilled, whom were almost without exception pencilled in for another mid-table struggle - and who could blame the analysts, with what had been touted as one of the strongest collection of clubs ever assembled in Singapore, clustered together in the league? Be Champions FC and Pudgy Penguins were drawing comparisms with some of the best worldwide, Shining Lights and United Warrior Team had dominated their Division Two opponents, Pearl Divers was solid as always, singnet_utd near-impregnable in defence, and Isle of Flames was, well, Isle of Flames.

A 0-4 away defeat to Lights in the second week was followed by a Cup exit at the hands of All The King Men, but then all of a sudden, everything that the Birds touched turned to gold. It might have been fighting spirit, it might have been dumb luck, but they won their next four in the league, to enter the break well in contention.

Grilled then suffered their second 0-4 loss, against the Penguins, but they came roaring back with a tremendous 6-0 shutout, which was followed by a 2-1 away win against BCFC to complete the double against the favourites. Nine points from twelve against the top two contenders put the Birds firmly in pole position, and despite dropped points against newly-crowned cupwinners singnet_utd and the Warriors, results elsewhere went their way.

A 4-2 win against a subdued Isle of Flames side meant that Grilled would almost certainly wrap up the championship by beating Shining Lights, only for them to hammer Grilled 3-0 at The Cooking Pot. Despite that, the Birds could still have edged it had they beaten Pearl Divers on the last day, but there was nothing left in the tank by then.

The Buns did enjoy ultimate success, if in the rather less rarefied heights of Division Four. They continued with their recruitment of excellent defensive prospects, with Wong Ting Yew and Lau Chang Wan their marquee trainee signings, while the season break saw former youth international Sikong Darong brought in the show the young 'uns the ropes. Swedish sensation Enzo Paolo Panzarino also arrived to help shoulder Ermis Ftenopoulos' scoring burden, and share set-piece duties with Sikong.
