Clock Strikes Twelve
The Birds would finally collect on their long-drawn preparations, as they mastered II.2 with eleven wins and a draw, while scoring a third more goals than any other team in the league. Tian Yonghang further put his stamp on the achievement by romping to seventeen for himself, as Grilled claimed four of the top five spots in the scorers' chart.
Tian and company could hardly put a foot wrong in cup play too, with their only blemish an unlucky 2-1 defeat to Joker 9 in the fifth round of the main competition. Even that was a blessing in disguise, as they had scarcely any trouble until the semifinals of the newly-created Ruby Challenger Cup, which they lifted after narrow victories against United Warrior Team, and then The Void Deck.
There was then very little that their famously-critical support could come up with, though United remained a hassle by again raising their game whenever the Birds came calling; their titanic clash at The Cooking Pot was an instant classic, and might well be remembered as the high point of this Grilled side, despite ending in a three-all draw.
To add to the sense of completion, they would further lay claim to having visited and hosted clubs from all 128 recognized Hattrick-participant nations, the first in Singapore to complete the feat.
Grilled were joined in their accomplishments by their affiliate Farmer Bunnies, who followed historical precedent by taking the IV.11 title, as the Birds had done so long ago. With a superb crop of youngsters coming through they youth system, they might even be eyeing their parent side in the not-too-distant future!
