Molaikos Mean Business
Papadakis Da Man
Grilled journeyed to the balmy Aegean Isles to meet Molaikos at their euphemistically named Edw 8a ginei o tafos sas!! arena. With high-strung nerves after just outlasting Rubiskaya 3-2 in the last league fixture, Grilled were under orders not to overexert. The air was cool though the sun was bright, and
Ricard Machado, deployed as winger for the match, must have thought it the perfect day as he scored in the third minute. Twenty-nine year old Dimitri Papadakis, originally from Santa, retorted in kind with a searing shot that burnt Huel-sheng's fingers. Dutchman Roel Geurden had a field day against the singleminded
Li Ze, who was quick in advancing but slow in retreat. Had
Lan Tuan-Mu not compensated for his young colleague's shortcomings, Grilled would have found themselves several goals behind.
Li Ze did nearly justify his actions when he was first to an early cross from Machado, but his right foot failed him as the ball sailed into the sunny skies.
Molaikos began to move the ball up as swiftly as possible, avoiding Grilled's strength in the centre, and profited when Vassilis imeonidis' quick feet sent Papadakis away home free to blast one past Huel-sheng. Grilled woke up after that, and captain Huel-sheng began shouting for the young midfield trio to hold the ball up more. This began a long streak of possession, during which
Tim Hobson inexplicably fired into Christos Pantazis after beating the rest of the Molaikos defence, and then won some cheers but not a goal with a breathtaking overhead shot later. The match turned Molaikos way in the end, when Papadakis, alone against Dewilde and Siu-Cheung, pulled away from both to poke the ball to Huel-sheng's right. No-one begrudged the result, since both sides had got a clean afternoon's worth of soccer out of each other.
