Scorps Stung
Improved Performance
Grilled upped their game in the second match of the season's doubleheader against Scorps.
Scorps fielded two changes from the side that went down by two goals at home last Sunday, while Grilled tried out
Johan Dewilde in place of
Kau Siu-Cheung and replaced an ineffective
Gao Seng-kar with a fresh
Aznan Noor Yadah, allowing
Ma Dai-Lin to go back to his favoured right wing.
The difference was not immediately apparent, as Grilled took some time to dig in. The goals when they came were not as spectacular as they were the previous week, but
Chen Chiew-Yen wasn't complaining when his simple floated lob beat Flinkby in the 28th minute.
The gap in pace between
Gao Seng-kar and
Aznan Noor Yadah was clear when Aznan made Kun-Fun look as though he was standing still with a quick turn of pace. Aznan proceeded to deposit the ball in the far corner of the goal. Grilled were unable to add to their tally in the first half, and fears that they would fizzle out again were allayed only late in the game.
Tom Pence once again collected a caution for his spirited tackling, and Grilled lacked bite in attack until he and
Ma Dai-Lin exploited Hobson's aerial superiority in time. Dai-Lin picked out Hobson in a packed penalty area in the 73rd minute, and Hobson shrugged off the keen attentions of well-built Wang Guo-Fang to head past Flinkby. His goal from Pence's cross came when he was unmarked, as the Scorps defenders were busy venturing upfield to try and get a consolation goal after
Chen Chiew-Yen was dismissed for a head-butt in the heat of play.
Aznan Noor Yadah got his brace too, combining well with Hobson to leave the defensive line behind and slot the ball between Flinkby's legs.
