Saarlouis Slaughter
Carrard Can Do
German Division Five club Blau Weiß Saarlouis supplied nearly five thousand fans for their friendly against Grilled, and gave them their money's worth with eleven goals against the Grilled second stringers.
Called back into action after an average Cup campaign, the reserves appeared far from match fit, and were quickly found out by the battle-hardened Germans. It was a Pole who began the destruction, though, as centre forward Stanisław Kubies first looped a ball over Bao-Tam after just five minutes, and then finished off a direct run with another goal.
Went Seng-Huat in Grilled's central defence had much trouble keeping up, and his participation was further curtailed by a rather soft yellow card early on. He ended up more or less watching Ortfried Fisch leap over him to record the third goal, and Swiss forward Gilbert Carrard then completed a magnificent hat-trick before half-time.
By then, both Kubies and Hjortlind had likewise been booked, after the Pole nudged Chuan Heng in the back in his haste to get to the ball, and Grilled's Swede forward bumped into a Saarlouis defender in what looked like a tit-for-tat act.
Only one of them was ever going to end up on the winning side, and it was certainly not Hjortlind; 18 year-old Bosnian defender Ado Novalija put his long strides to good use as he pounced on a misclearance, and Alexander Siebenhütter then made it 8-0 by rounding Bao-Tam to score.
Fisch hammered another home even as Predrag Atanasković made way for Marko Dubljević in central defence, and Number Nine was achieved after a winded Chuan Heng wrapped his arms around Carrard, conceding a penalty that Fisch scored. He somehow escaped punishment for that, only to get a yellow card anyway for a niggling foul minutes later.
The speedy Herald Sester then put his club into double figures, with the Birds at least managing to see out the final ten minutes without letting another one in.
