Slain For Ten
Hu's The Man
SHEV UNITED's miserable season continued, as the Bukit Panjang club were hit for double figures by a Grilled side in second gear. This nearly cost the Birds as the home team were able to keep them out for over half an hour, and winger Tang Hengnan might have gotten only their third goal of the season after
Hu Huihong made a hash of his clearance.
Tang was stopped by quick thinking from Lik-Tsun, and SHEV UNITED would pay the price as Grilled began looking seriously for the opener. Finally,
Matthias Branbilla won a penalty as he shuffled his feet in the area, and Rotteveel lifted the ball over Mohd Zan bin Haniff to give Grilled the lead.
That shattered the hosts' self-belief, and winger
Hu Jianyong enjoyed his maiden professional hat-trick, all three goals coming in the space of five minutes. A tap-in, a long dribble and a drilled shot did it for the 19 year-old, who gleefully did an airplane celebration after the deed.
Subri even had the time to increase the lead to five, before Branbilla got carded for some totally unnecessary tussling right before the half-time whistle went. The recriminations continued into the tunnel and after the break, with Othman bin Mohamed eventually joining Branbilla into the referee's black book.
Ahmad Tharmini bin Selamat then notched his first league goal for Grilled, after a disconcerted Othman woefully under-hit his backpass. Mohd Zan was next to lose his concentration, and a fairly mundane free-kick by Rotteveel's own high standards trickled over the line for Grilled's seventh goal.
MacKinnon then boomed in an eighth, while Subri dazzled his way through the middle for the ninth. The hosts had high hopes of at least getting a consolation after Afandi bin Abd Hamid went down hard after contact with Talib, and there were loud boos after the referee decided to book him for simulation instead.
Subri then rounded the day off with a mighty swipe at the ball for 10-0, leaving the Grilled travellers satisfied if not overly optimistic, given the quality of the opposition.
