Karczew Conquers
Norton Makes Name
Aged American forward Will Norton still knew a trick or two as he bagged a first-half hat-trick to send Polish team Stan Toro Karczew on their way to a comprehensive ravaging of Grilled's second XI. Indeed, it only took eight minutes for Norton to make it 2-0, with a delightful lob followed up by a keen free-kick that went under Grilled's wall.
Their youth star Wojciech Hejduk was also eager to impress, putting his body on the line to block Dijiang from blasting a quick free-kick at goal. A repeat of that brave act earned him a yellow card, but he continued to be instrumental as he nearly assisted Hirschberg for a goal that was thwarted only by Bao-Tam's large hands. Hejduk then went for it himself as fullback János Hungler gave him a short lob to chase, allowing him a commanding header for 3-0.
Hejduk was further inspired by that, and sought out the equally pumped Norton ten minutes later after getting a leg up on Chuancheng. Norton still had a lot to do, but did it with aplomb as he breezed past Deme and sidestepped Seng-Huat to bomb in the fourth goal.
The 4000-odd fans, mostly clad in the home side's red and white stripes, roared their encouragement throughout, but were getting a little restless when Mieczyslaw Mija roused them with a fiftieth minute cracker. It was thanks to the impressive Delano, who would unfortunately be injured later on, after Cornelius Isler extended the lead to six goals with a classic cut-in with one foot and fire with the other move.
Grilled offered little resistance, and Mijas got his second goal a little too easily for Liehner's taste. The Grilled coach fumed as his central defenders half-heartedly approached the young left winger, who obligingly ran between them and knocked the ball past Bao-Tam. Cornelius Isler and Konrad Czachowsk contributed the final two goals in as the despondent Grilled players waited out the final minutes.
