Goals Galore
Out of the Singapore Cup, Grilled accepted the invitaton of Portuguese Division Three club futrebol to play a friendly, while they sought an unofficial competition to join. It turned out to be a highly enjoyable visit that brought nine goals and plenty of fun for players and spectators alike.
Neither team took the match very seriously at all, but Grilled had the edge in offence as their young attackers sought to erase the Cup defeat from their minds. Veteran Swedish centreback Anders Martinsson would have the first say, however, as he beat Bao-Tam with an accurate right-footed stinger from inside the box.
Dani Spirig answered that with a cultured curler of his own, only for local lad Albino Comprido to put the ball inside Bao-Tam's near post after Cristiano Peyroteo did all the heavy lifting down the left flank. The score stayed that way for twenty minutes, until
Ciro Penati took a reckless drive from the middle more out of frustration that anything, that unexpectedly peeled away from futrebol's goalkeeper Sílvio Gayo at the last moment.
Ivaylo Mirchev doesn't get many chances at direct free-kicks, but he made the most of this one as he dropped the ball over the wall and into Gayo's goal to put Grilled in front for the first time. 33 year-old Dutch midfielder Jan-Roelf van Goolen got his legs tangled up after Tuan-Mu lunged into a fair challenge, but no lasting harm was done as the teams took a break in good spirits.
Having found his scoring touch, Mirchev put it to use in the 69th minute. Grilled had unsuccessfully peppered Gayo with shots for some time, and it was only when Rui Antunes turned blindly and was robbed by
Ciro Penati could Grilled extend their lead. Penati's final pass was short, but Mirchev still made up for the wasted seconds by clipping the ball cleverly.
futrebol made a fight of it, and Albino Comprido thoroughly enjoyed his second goal, which came after a nice dribble down the middle by van Goolen. That was as close as they got, as Mohd Firdaus made it 3-5 with an unorthodox finish before Mirchev completed his hat-trick with another wonderful free-kick.
