Gundams Cancelled
Bad Discipline
Although Grilled handily disposed of Balestier side Gundam X Freak seven goals to nil, they ended the game with just nine men on the pitch as
Ciro Penati and
Weng Seng-Huat both collected two yellow cards.
The match began quickly enough for the Birds, as two goals in the first four minutes by Rotteveel and Seng-Huat respectively put Grilled firmly in the lead. Gundam had not even been able to settle down before they were blitzed. They did pull off some interesting forays, though, and Sima Hoai An could have shocked the returning Valdir with a neatly drilled strike that bounced off his own teammate and off the crossbar.
Rotteveel didn't raise his standings in the popularity stakes when he deliberately stood in front of a quick free-kick by Chan Ze Tze. The Dutchman tried to protest his innocence and walked away when the referee wanted to have a word with him, which may have upgraded a simple telling-to into a yellow card. He wasn't too affected, though, as he retained enough sharpness to redirect a mishit free-kick by Hjortlind into Mirchev's path for an easy goal.
Grilled made easy work of it as Chowdhury continued his fine scoring streak with a natural eye for goal, as he cleared an open look for himself with a smooth feint that a veteran striker would have been proud of. Penati was in contrast all action without reason, as he made a spectacular hash out of a routine tackle and seriously hurt Asri bin Rahman - a yellow was no less than he deserved.
Rotteveel added his second thanks to the speed of Penati, who cut a swathe through the left flank with a burst of pace.
Weng Seng-Huat took one for the team when he cut off Pan Than Lin's run in midfield, as Grilled lost their defensive shape.
Sándor Deme lobbed a sixth, then
Ciro Penati further blemished his disciplinary record when he grabbed Abdul bin Mahayuddin by the scruff of the neck after being turned by the winger. That might have been a straight red by itself, but the referee instead gave a second yellow, which had the same outcome.
Grilled's superior fitness shone through as they upped the tempo despite being a man down, and the final minutes belong to Seng-Huat as he got his first brace on the day he got his first professional goal with a smart sidefooted placed shot. Ironically he wouldn't even finish the game, though, as he brutally ran through a Gundams defender and got his marching orders too.
