The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Grilled Birds went for 2-5-3 while Bukit Regency has decided to play a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled used their divine (+4) (24) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Regency, taking advantage of their inadequate (5) level with that tactic.
Phua Ming Xin caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 5 minutes. This gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead. Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
Phua Ming Xin squirmed through their central defence after 21 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0. 22 minutes in, Regency's
Willie Shi received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Grilled's
Federico Parada took a knock to the head after 23 minutes, due to a badly executed header. He took a few uneasy steps, but got dizzy and then taken off the field. The replacement for the injured player was
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan. With
Federico Parada no longer on the pitch,
Aw Keng Chuan became the new set pieces taker. Regency's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. 2 - 0 was the score after the first half. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 68 percent.
It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Grilled's
Mohd Marzuki Khairul saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 55 minutes. Regency's
Mo Seng Long got himself booked for a foul. The score became 3 - 0 at 73 minutes into the game, when Grilled were given a penalty which
Aw Keng Chuan blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance! Cheers filled the stadium as
Lim An Keng broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Grilled. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Shiv Chowdhury from Regency a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 76 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! With 80 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 5 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Mohd Marzuki Khairul, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Grilled solidified their lead at the 82 minute mark, as
Gandhik Chitre dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 6 - 0. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Hwang Teck Fu off the field.
Gústav Thoroddsen took his place. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 6 - 0. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.
Grilled's top performer was clearly
Aw Keng Chuan. However,
Damian Hutter made a disastrous appearance.
Fabián Gambina performed admirably for Regency.
Ganesan Mirikar on the other hand, had a terrible day.
