Grilled 3 - 1 Blacksail

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 47006 at The Cooking Pot today. Tuomas 'Tuoppi' Mäkikokko was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kevin Reeperbahn and Joel Sarfo. The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Law - Jaška, El Khateeb - Ferzan, An Keng, Keng Chuan, Teck Fu, Trindade - Tokarz, Ming Xin, Chitre.

Blacksail's lineup was: Koychev - Šrám, Gómez de Avellaneda, Scarlat - De Bock, Prodinger, MacGuigan, Markiewicz, Meisner - Romano, Schwalbennest.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 3-5-2. It was an obvious ambition of Blacksail to use their utopian (19) ability at attacking on the flanks. Grilled could have put themselves ahead after 3 minutes but Phua Ming Xin missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right. They were singing the praises of Phua Ming Xin 5 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Grilled. Some brilliant football from the visitors' right wing resulted in a levelling of the score as Blacksail's Tobias Prodinger put the ball in the onion bag after 19 minutes to make it 1 - 1. Grilled made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left Hwang Teck Fu completely alone with keeper Georgi Koychev, who made a spectacular block. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 57 percent of the ball.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Mohsen El Khateeb gave Teo Chuan Yong a quick hug as he left the field. Grilled took the lead 47 minutes into the game by 2 - 1, as Orest Tokarz elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. Grilled's Aw Keng Chuan saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 53 minutes. With 62 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 3 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to Gandhik Chitre, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Radovan Jaška from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 63 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Moisés Romano was in no condition to play on. He left the field limping after 63 minutes, with his right thigh bandaged. Due to this disastrous turn of events, the team now had to finish the match with a reduced lineup. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Radovan Jaška off the field. Bhavya Panigrahi took his place. With Radovan Jaška no longer on the pitch, Teo Chuan Yong took over free kick duty. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Gandhik Chitre reluctantly made way for Chan Ze Han on the pitch. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 3 - 1. Grilled had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

Aw Keng Chuan performed admirably for Grilled. Teo Chuan Yong turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Blacksail player was Jan Markiewicz. Květoslav Šrám was a disappointment, however.
