Cherry 0 - 9 Grilled
3268 spectators had found their way to
Grand Anse Beach Palace, despite the heavy rain.
Gabriel Cazacu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Mike Tyson and
Jan Malý. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The following players took the field for Cherry:
Gant -
Hermanus,
Welkenbach,
Bholan,
Potiroulis,
Cao Kỳ -
Barclay,
Barón -
Barton,
Engeloch,
Wright.
The following players had been chosen by Grilled:
Law -
Jaška,
El Khateeb -
Trindade,
An Keng,
Keng Chuan,
Teck Fu,
Parada -
Balde,
Ming Xin,
Chitre.
Cherry Hill SC fielded a 5-2-3 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. It was an obvious ambition of Cherry to use their solid (7) ability at attacking on the flanks. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Grilled's
Federico Parada somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
Paulino Trindade, who struck for 0 - 1. After 5 minutes, Grilled's
Lim An Keng burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. The home crowd was not impressed when
Hwang Teck Fu came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 6 minutes. Grilled were now up 0 - 3. The visitors almost increased their lead after 12 minutes when a sweetly hit free kick looked like it was heading for the top corner. However the keeper managed to get a fingertip to it, sending it over the bar. After 25 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Lim An Keng a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 4.
Aw Keng Chuan increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 5. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 5. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 86 percent of the ball.
46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Evandro La Face came on for
Ibnou Balde. After 55 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Evandro La Face who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 6. 71 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 7 as
Gandhik Chitre finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. With 72 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 0 - 8 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
Gandhik Chitre. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Mohsen El Khateeb gave
Gilbert Webb a quick hug as he left the field. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
Paulino Trindade after 79 minutes, and prevented Grilled from going up another goal.
Federico Parada of Grilled took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 86 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 9.
Joel Barton went down after twisting his left ankle after 87 minutes, and had to leave the pitch. The player that took his place was
Luboš Solich. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Gandhik Chitre off the field.
Chan Ze Han took his place. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 0 - 9. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 87 percent.
Cherry's top performer was clearly
Luboš Solich. On the other hand,
Oli Engeloch's play was disheartening. Grilled's best player was
Aw Keng Chuan.
Gilbert Webb was a disappointment, however.
