Grilled 5 - 2 International
It had rained all day, but 17881 hardy fans still made it out to
Singapore Arena.
Atle Sæle was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Muhammed Thinley and
Frank 'Gott' Engeln. The wet pitch made it difficult for technical or quick players to stand out. For once, the players relying on physical strength gained the upper hand. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players had been chosen by Grilled:
Germanakos -
An Keng,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Kwang Tse,
Khairul,
Teck Fu,
Parada -
Balde,
Ze Han,
Chitre.
International fielded:
Westerland -
Pospori,
Uthman,
Aandewiel -
Kwang Kong,
Li Chao,
Chin Cheng,
Yao Heng,
Puay Tong -
Sidenmo,
Iwasaki.
Grilled Birds fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For International CAT F.C., the formation of choice was 3-5-2. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for International on this day, taking advantage of their outstanding (10) level with that tactic. After 17 minutes, International's
Brandon Iwasaki made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.
Law Chin Cheng finished off the counterattack of International from the left rather easily, making the score 0 - 2. Grilled's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 35 minutes into the match as
Chan Ze Han ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 1 - 2.
Law Chin Cheng of International was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Grilled's
Federico Parada made use of his speed to get free of the defence, but he still couldn't get a shot off 41 minutes into the match. After 42 minutes of play,
Gandhik Chitre equalised for Grilled after an elegant attack from the right. After a fine move down the middle
Gandhik Chitre nearly gave the home side a goal after 43 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. After 44 minutes International tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately,
Jeen Aandewiel's shot sailed wide after his break down the right. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 2. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 68 percent.
Making his way up the middle 61 minutes into the match,
Chan Ze Han almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
Georg Westerland blocked it to keep the score level. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 76 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Grilled took the lead 78 minutes in, as
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy broke through on the left and put the 3 - 2 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. With 83 minutes played,
Federico Parada could have brought this one home for Grilled as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Grilled to 4 - 2 as
Chan Ze Han finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
Chan Ze Han wanted to play on, but the Grilled coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 90 minutes into the game by
Teo Chuan Yong. With
Chan Ze Han no longer on the pitch,
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy became the new set pieces taker. The Grilled captaincy was handed to
Teo Chuan Yong. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let
Bilal Mohammad Harun replace
Ibnou Balde after 91 minutes. Grilled put themselves up 5 - 2 when
Hwang Teck Fu broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
Mohd Marzuki Khairul left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 91 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
Aw Keng Chuan was the replacement. The match ends 5 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy performed admirably for Grilled.
Bilal Mohammad Harun was a disappointment, however. International's top performer was clearly
Peter Sidenmo. However,
Phua Li Chao made a disastrous appearance.
