The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Padstow Pirates went for 3-5-2 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled used their divine (+2) (22) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Padstow's
Selwyn Dowe was shown a yellow card after 11 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Hwang Teck Fu went down after twisting his right ankle after 11 minutes, and had to leave the pitch. The player that took his place was
Mohsen El Khateeb. 18 minutes into the game,
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 20 minutes in when
Ibnou Balde came up alone against
Stefan Gratzei who managed a block. 31 minutes into the match, Grilled nearly took the lead, as
Lim An Keng broke through on the right.
Stefan Gratzei made the save, however. Grilled took the lead 35 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Ibnou Balde was the scorer. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
After 51 minutes of game time,
Paulino Trindade had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but
Stefan Gratzei was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. 67 minutes into the match,
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. The goal to make it 1 - 1 was scored by
Steve Persson after 68 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by Padstow.
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but
Chia Kwang Tse seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chan Ze Han gave
Phua Ming Xin a quick hug as he left the field. With
Chan Ze Han no longer on the pitch,
Phua Ming Xin became the new set pieces taker.
夏 (Ha) 其材 (Qicai) was the new captain of Grilled - handed the armband by the departing player.
Aw Keng Chuan came close to putting the visiting team one up 79 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Stefan Gratzei managed to tip the ball to a corner. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity.
Stefan Gratzei looked great 81 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
Phua Ming Xin. 86 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Padstow to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
Engin Erdi alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. The visiting
Gandhik Chitre was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 88 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Paulino Trindade off the field.
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy took his place. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 2. Grilled had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.
Padstow's best player was
Stefan Gratzei.
Artur Rondot on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy. On the other hand,
Mohsen El Khateeb's play was disheartening.
