Grilled 2 - 1 Hydrous
Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
The Cooking Pot saw a crowd turnout of 48592.
Helar Kullamaa was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Severino Cantarelli and
Alexandru Irimia. Grilled's lineup was:
Germanakos -
Chuan Yong,
Hutter -
Reddy,
Kwang Tse,
Keng Chuan,
Teck Fu,
Trindade -
Balde,
Ze Han,
Chitre.
Hydrous fielded:
Iyengar -
Sabouga,
Fltsch,
Kim Yeng,

Rai -.
It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 5-5-0. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Hydrous, taking advantage of their formidable (9) level with that tactic. Many thought
Chan Ze Han ought to have been awarded a penalty 4 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
Kumaran Iyengar after a determined run through the middle. Hydrous's
Amndio Sabouga was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 15 minutes. Hydrous's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. 23 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Grilled to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
Chan Ze Han alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. Some great play up the middle by Grilled led to a chance for
Ibnou Balde to score after 29 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. The referee signaled a penalty for the home side after 30 minutes, amid vocal protests from the visitors. Grilled fans erupted in celebration as
Teo Chuan Yong rifled the ball into the the top corner. 1 - 0! 1 - 0 was the halftime score. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 82 percent.
46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Bhavya Panigrahi came on for
Teo Chuan Yong. With
Teo Chuan Yong no longer on the pitch,
Chan Ze Han became the new set pieces taker. Hydrous pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. With 71 minutes played, Grilled's
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. After 78 minutes
Gabriel Nakamura made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to
Leong Eng Heng who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 1 - 1. After 81 minutes, the home side was awarded a penalty. The visitors protested wildly but the referee was adamant.
Chan Ze Han easily put the ball away to give the lead to Grilled. 2 - 1 The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 86 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The game was close to savage at times, and Grilled's
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy received a second yellow card after 87 minutes; his ticket out of the game. The pressing tactics used by Hydrous were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 2 - 1. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 83 percent of possession.
Grilled's best player was
Aw Keng Chuan.
Bhavya Panigrahi on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Hydrous player was without a doubt
Amndio Sabouga.
Chee Jin Chin was a disappointment, however.
