Grilled 1 - 2 OTO FC
3575 spectators had found their way to
The Cooking Pot, despite the heavy rain.
Chiel Tans was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stefan Alber and
Benicio 'Explorator' Magallanes. For strong, physical players the heavy rain was easy to overcome, it was even an advantage given their style of play. Others, such as the quick or technical ones, made bleaker appearances. Grilled fielded:
Law -
Jaška,
El Khateeb -
Ferzan,
Kwang Tse,
Keng Chuan,
Teck Fu,
Trindade -
Chitre,
Ze Han,
Balde.
OTO FC's lineup was:
Gogishvili -
Avkophashvili,
Onophrishvili,
Calvillo,
Matić,
Božić -
Lashkhia,
Caffrey,
Stillkerich,
Broeren -
Uğuz.
It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 5-4-1. Grilled demonstrated their world class (13) creative tactics on the field. OTO FC decided to play creatively at a world class (13) level.
Mohsen El Khateeb really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great play by
Aw Keng Chuan after a corner. Grilled had a chance to take the lead after
Paulino Trindade's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 12 minutes. With 17 minutes played
Gandhik Chitre almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. After 18 minutes, a well-worked counterattack by OTO FC on the right presented an easy opportunity in front of the goal that was duly converted by
Tjaard Broeren to make it 0 - 1. Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Grilled, but
Chan Ze Han's shot went over the bar.
Chan Ze Han made a superb strike after 21 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Grilled had most of the ball, with 69 percent of possession.
46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Teo Chuan Yong came on for
Chan Ze Han. With
Chan Ze Han no longer on the pitch,
Teo Chuan Yong became the new set pieces taker.
Teo Chuan Yong was the new captain of Grilled - handed the armband by the departing player. With the crowd on their feet chanting wildly, some great moves down the right hand side after 72 minutes gave Grilled a wonderful opportunity to level the score, and
Gandhik Chitre stepped up to the challenge. 1 - 1 OTO FC had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 75 minutes in when
Archil Onophrishvili came up alone against
Cameron Law who managed a block.
Tjaard Broeren earned a rousing chorus of cheers from his fans as he seemed to come out of nowhere after 76 minutes to intercept the ball and put it in the back of the net for OTO FC. 1 - 2. The match ends 1 - 2. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.
Grilled's best player was
Aw Keng Chuan.
Teo Chuan Yong on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important OTO FC player was
Connor Caffrey. On the other hand,
Dinko Božić's play was disheartening.
