The Unforgotten Man
Toh Eng Guang might have been unremarkable enough to have his player profile page unlisted on the club website for months without anybody noticing, but they are certainly sitting up and recognizing him now; the 20 year-old Farmer Bunnies Number 35 would become just the third of the Golden Generation to earn a national U-20 cap, after featuring in the Young Lions' 0-1 Nations Cup loss to Ireland today.
This was not the greatest of omens for this U-20 Singapore team, who currently sit 47th of 48 participants on two losses, above just the United Arab Emirates. Toh was actually not too bad at Moldova's Servalim Arena, however, with Ireland only managing to score from the spot in the 42nd minute, after goalkeeper Kong Pin Tian had been judged to have knocked David Bradley off his header, from a corner.
Prakash Bhujbal spurned U-20 Singapore's last and best counterattacking opportunity in the 78th minute, but Buns head coach
Vishnu Tallapaka saw much to like in Toh's steady, no-nonsense debut. "He was tasked to watch out for right-sided midfield runs by Tony Gould and Dirk O'Briain from what I could gather, and if so he discharged his duties well." Tallapaka commented. "Nothing that would give them pause in calling him up again!"
