Grilled 1 - 3 Galactic

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 23750 had shown up at Love Street Stadium for the match. Irineu Carneiro Costa was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Roland Boireau and Rigoberto Paredes. The match took place on neutral ground. Grilled's lineup was: Germanakos - Keng Chuan, Hutter - Ferzan, An Keng, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Parada - Reece, Ming Xin, Tokarz.

Galactic's starters: Sullivan - Chang Eng, Da Keng, Reddy, Lim - Ping Eng, Wen Jun, Kim Chuan, Keong Hui, Lau - Hock Kok.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 4-5-1. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their magical (18) level with that tactic. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Galactic on this day, taking advantage of their mythical (17) level with that tactic. Many thought Mohd Marzuki Khairul ought to have been awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around Marc Sullivan after a determined run through the middle. After 11 minutes, a well-worked counterattack by Galactic on the right presented an easy opportunity in front of the goal that was duly converted by Aaron Lau to make it 0 - 1. Federico Parada showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 21 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 1 - 1 equaliser away. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Some great play up the middle by Grilled led to a chance for Joe Reece to score after 37 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. Grilled created a good opportunity to score 38 minutes into the match when Joe Reece's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. Lim An Keng went down after twisting his left ankle after 42 minutes, and had to leave the pitch. Hwang Teck Fu had already been warming up, and came on for Lim An Keng. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Grilled had most of the ball, with 63 percent of possession.

Galactic's counterattacks were lethal to the opposing defence, allowing Kee 'Seagull' Ping Eng to score easily from the right flank for 1 - 2. 72 minutes into the game, Phua Ming Xin came close to levelling the score with a dangerous shot from the centre of the area that went just over the bar. Sean Lim received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 75 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 3. The Galactic fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when Hwang Teck Fu tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. Marc Sullivan was too alert for that! The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 1 - 3. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Mohd Marzuki Khairul. Damian Hutter on the other hand, had a terrible day. Galactic's best player was Tong 'El Chapo' Hock Kok. Sean Lim turned in a dismal performance, however.
