The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Sentosa went for 3-5-2 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Sentosa mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their outstanding (10) level with that tactic. 6 minutes into the game,
Paulino Trindade had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 8 minutes allowed
Atang Mangoye to score for Grilled. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. After 23 minutes of play,
Tay Tang equalised for Sentosa after an elegant attack from the right. After 27 minutes,
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan suffered a slight injury to his right calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game. Grilled took the lead 33 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle.
Gandhik Chitre was the scorer. Sentosa's
Rahim Ladzim set up a perfect opportunity for
Dezyderiusz Dejko, but the latter failed to score. With a shot curled in from just outside the middle of the penalty area after 36 minutes played,
Xie Choon Kiong of Sentosa made the score 2 - 2. With 37 minutes played, Grilled's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
Orest Tokarz he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 2 - 3. 2 - 3 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.
47 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 2 - 4 as
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. After 68 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 2 - 5. After 70 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Aw Keng Chuan a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 2 - 6. Sentosa's
Radosław Ostaszewski had the ball at his feet in front of goal after a quickly taken free kick after 72 minutes, but was robbed of it in the blink of an eye by an onrushing defender. The home crowd was not impressed when
Enrique Baena came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 73 minutes. Grilled were now up 2 - 7. After 74 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Atang Mangoye who increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 8. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Benji Saechao from Sentosa a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 75 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Atang Mangoye would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Gilbert Webb entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 85 minutes. With
Atang Mangoye no longer on the pitch,
Gilbert Webb took over free kick duty. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Orest Tokarz reluctantly made way for
Bilal Mohammad Harun on the pitch. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 2 - 8. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 65 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Sentosa player was without a doubt
Tay Tang.
Andrzej Piontek on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Aw Keng Chuan performed admirably for Grilled.
Manuel Vadalà turned in a dismal performance, however.
