Princes 1 - 4 Grilled

Due to an all-day shower, 3569 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at The Lazy Princes Arena. Matteo Baron was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Denis Selyukov and Vireak Oeurm. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The following players took the field for Princes: Beng Puay - Clauses, Feng Hui, Surman - bin Latif Tuah, bin Hj Osman, bin Hj Raziman, bin Jamil - bin Ali Hashim, Hanley, Marando.

The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Vadal - Mangoye, Webb - Baena, Thach, Chitre, Teck Fu, Keng Chuan - Ferzan, Chuan Yong, Mohammad Harun.

The Lazy Princes fielded a 3-4-3 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. The strategy for Princes was to use their inadequate (5) ability to press. The terraces were silenced after 3 minutes when Grilled's Egemen Diner Ferzan put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. 14 minutes into the game, Princes wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Jos Clauses gave Hj Hashim bin Hj Juli a quick hug as he left the field. As Jos Clauses left the field, the coach signaled to Rosmin bin Hj Osman to be the new set pieces taker. The crowd roared in delight as Rosmin bin Hj Osman finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Princes 23 minutes into the match. 1 - 1. After 24 minutes, Grilled were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. Aw Keng Chuan did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. 30 minutes into the game Chad Thach could see that the opposing goalie was out of position and tried an unexpected lob that the keeper just barely reached. The rebound went to Teo Chuan Yong who failed to hit the target. The home keeper expected a move to the right, but Teo Chuan Yong surprised him with a free kick aimed the other way 32 minutes into the match. 1 - 2 for Grilled. Princes's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. With 41 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed Enrique Baena of Grilled to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 3. After 44 minutes, Princes used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 3. Grilled had most of the ball, with 69 percent of possession.

As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Hwang Teck Fu reluctantly made way for Lim An Keng on the pitch. Aw Keng Chuan would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Federico Parada entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 46 minutes. Ratano bin Ali Hashim of Princes was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Mohsen El Khateeb came on for Gilbert Webb. After 61 minutes, the Princes coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Hj Hashim bin Hj Juli off the field. Pek Ah Seng took his place. Princes's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. Egemen Diner Ferzan of Grilled took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 71 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 1 - 4. Wong Beng Puay got a fingertip on Atang Mangoye's shot from the left 73 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. Ratano bin Ali Hashim was unable to continue, following a slight injury to his left knee after 78 minutes. The replacement for the injured player was Hj Jappar bin Hj Sagap. Grilled came close to extending their lead as Chad Thach delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 81 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. The referee announced 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. With the scoreboard showing that 90 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after Bilal Mohammad Harun came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. The match ends 1 - 4. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 68 percent.

Franciszek Surman performed admirably for Princes. Hj Jappar bin Hj Sagap turned in a dismal performance, however. Grilled's top performer was clearly Lim An Keng. Manuel Vadal on the other hand, had a terrible day.
