A 2-5-3 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Grilled used their world class (13) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Many fans are yawning as CSKLa appears to be more enamored of using their inadequate (5) pressing skills to smother the opponents' attacks rather than create attacks of their own. But all will be forgiven if it achieves a good result. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park.
Chan Ze Han's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal in minute 2 following a run up the middle gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead.
Michaël Paradis came close to leveling the score 7 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post. Grilled put themselves up 2 - 0 when
Aw Keng Chuan broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. Grilled added another goal to their lead as
Gandhik Chitre struck home for 3 - 0 after an attack from the left set him up unmarked in front of the keeper. After 36 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
Moey Xin Seng might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However,
Ahmed Rafeeq made a spectacular save. It was 3 - 0 at the break. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Take Me To Your Lizard tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Moey Xin Seng reluctantly made way for
Kalki Parvathaneni.
Bhavya Panigrahi was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 62 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 63 minutes on the clock after
Chad Thach's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though. With 64 minutes played, CSKLa showed they hadn't given up and were able to reduce the score to 3 - 1 when
Óscar Velarde got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center.
Gandhik Chitre should probably have put his team up another goal after 66 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
Ahmed Rafeeq kept the visitors in the game. Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi was shown a yellow card after 69 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
70 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Chia Kwang Tse came on for
Aw Keng Chuan. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's
Gandhik Chitre bringing the lead up to 4 - 1. The pressing tactics used by CSKLa were successful as the ball didn't make it out of the middle third very much. Desperate for a goal, CSKLa's
Michaël Paradis saw that the home team's keeper was off his line. Coming in from the right side, his chip successfully reduced the lead to 4 - 2. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 4 - 2. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 58 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Damian Hutter seemed to stumble all over the pitch. CSKLa's top performer was clearly
Władysław Kaszkacha. Good thing
Enrique Nogueira isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
