Grilled 1 - 4 G9S

The crowd turning up at the stadium today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. Starters: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Hutter - Ferzan, Thach, Keng Chuan, An Keng, Baena - Ze Han, Xin Seng, Chitre.

The following players had been selected: Logan - Florian, Bajur, Govaerts - Keskimaa, Hagelling, Oborocea, Krapancsák, Zigerlig - Bracons, Jung.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 3-5-2. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their world class (13) ability to attack in the middle. After 10 minutes, G9S's René Zigerlig made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. The head of Aw Keng Chuan connected with a beautiful corner kick after 18 minutes. He wasn't shooting, though, but rather passing to Chan Ze Han of Grilled who buried the shot for 1 - 1. Though it was beautiful soccer, the home crowd did not enjoy Franz Florian's goal after a run down the left with 34 minutes on the clock. G9S lead, 1 - 2. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 54 percent possession in this half was spot on!

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Moey Xin Seng gave Kalki Parvathaneni a quick hug as he left the field. Grilled's Aw Keng Chuan almost tied things up after 53 minutes when he broke through on the right, but his shot deflected off the post. The referee showed Grilled's Bhavya Panigrahi the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After 56 minutes, G9S's Franz Florian burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 3. After 61 minutes, the G9S coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Ádám Krapancsák off. Pavel Hošek took his place. Pavel Hošek was handed the G9S captain's armband. With the clock showing 64 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Xavier Govaerts looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Eliot Baltz, though he would have liked to continue. The home crowd was not impressed when Ot Bracons came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 69 minutes. G9S were now up 1 - 4. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Aw Keng Chuan reluctantly made way for Chia Kwang Tse. The crowd groaned when Chia Kwang Tse, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to pull one back for Grilled. 82 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a G9S substitution. Vuk Simin came on for Jong-Kyu Jung. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 1 - 4. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 54 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. Good thing Damian Hutter isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The most outstanding G9S player was without a doubt Ot Bracons. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Eliot Baltz today.
