The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Grilled Birds, went for a 2-5-3, while FC Relecq-Kerhuon has decided to play a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled used their extra-terrestrial (16) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. An accurate cross from Grilled's
Paulino Trindade was met with a wonderful off-balance header from
Lim An Keng, hitting the inside base of the post before curling up into the back of the net like a dog in front of a fire for 1 - 0. Grilled solidified their lead at the 13 minute mark, as
Chan Ze Han snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 2 - 0. After 19 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
Chan Ze Han might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However,
Cyril Njwayo made a spectacular save. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates 22 minutes in.
Onat Atak showed that FCR weren't done, putting the ball in the net after an opportunistic attack from the right side 29 minutes into the game. 31 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as
Gilbert Webb ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 3 - 1 for Grilled. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 36 minutes on the clock after
Bhavya Panigrahi's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though.
Aw Keng Chuan had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 38 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 1. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Kalki Parvathaneni looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Chia Kwang Tse, though he would have liked to continue. 46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Bilal Mohammad Harun gave
Chad Thach a quick hug as he left the field. After 60 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Moey Xin Seng off.
Teo Chuan Yong took his place. With 70 minutes played, FCR showed they hadn't given up and were able to reduce the score to 3 - 2 when
Tnu Varvas got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal. Grilled's
Chad Thach was shown a yellow card after 72 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defense were able to clear the ball. FCR were great at switching from defense to attack, and after 78 minutes,
Josef Milde swept through the middle on a fantastic counter-attack, making the score 3 - 3. Oh dear - the keeper's made a mess of that one. The crowd was very disappointed after he let
Abdelhadi Iraqui get the go-ahead goal with a speculative shot from the right after 83 minutes. 3 - 4. A thrilling play through the middle after 88 minutes gave FCR's
Onat Atak a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 3 - 5. The fourth official announced that there would be 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 3 - 5. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 58 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Most important Grilled player was
Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Gilbert Webb today. The most outstanding FCR player was without a doubt
Egeo Canonici. I can't remember
Zaw Thet Oo ever having a worse night than he just had.
