Palace 0 - 6 Grilled
It had rained all day, but 12000 hardy fans still made it out to
Djini Arena.
Mike Schumacher was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Paul-Louis Letellier and
Fortunat Astrain. For strong, physical players the heavy rain was easy to overcome, it was even an advantage given their style of play. Others, such as the quick or technical ones, made bleaker appearances. The following players took the field for Palace:
Izzul -
Liang Kok,
Shi Yeow,
Lai Choon,
Meng Wan -
Cheng,
Cheng Hui,
Jian Long,
Padukone -
Lee Xin,
Mohd Amirul Hadi.
Grilled's starters:
Germanakos -
Panigrahi,
Hutter -
Ferzan,
Thach,
Keng Chuan,
An Keng,
Baena -
Mohammad Harun,
Ze Han,
Xin Seng.
Cloud Palace started the game in a 4-4-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled clearly preferred using their titanic (15) ability to attack in the middle. After 4 minutes, Grilled's
Chan Ze Han made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. After 15 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
Chan Ze Han to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Bhavya Panigrahi from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 17 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 18 minutes into the game, Palace's
Choo Jian Long rolled over in pain after taking a forceful blow to his upper chest. After bandaging his collarbone, the medics led him off the field.
Mak Tong Qiang had already been warming up, and came on for
Choo Jian Long. Grilled increased their lead after 26 minutes when
Lim An Keng broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay. With 29 minutes played, Grilled's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
Chan Ze Han he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 0 - 4. That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
Chan Ze Han. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 4. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 77 percent of the ball.
46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Chia Kwang Tse came on for
Lim An Keng.
Bilal Mohammad Harun would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Kalki Parvathaneni entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 46 minutes. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. With 49 minutes played,
Chan Ze Han nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. With their counter attack move halted 50 minutes into the game, Palace were left with a free kick. The ball is passed straight through to the other end of the penalty area, with hopes for it to reach
Yusri Dhiya Mohd Amirul Hadi. However, he didn't have his wits about him and the ball went out. Palace's
Leong Cheng Hui took a knock to the head after 51 minutes, due to a badly executed header. He looked wobbly for a second, but eventually just laughed it off and continued playing. After 56 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Kalki Parvathaneni who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 5.
Hasnain Abdul Muadz Izzul got a fingertip on
Kalki Parvathaneni's shot from the left 64 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. After 70 minutes of game time,
Aw Keng Chuan had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but
Hasnain Abdul Muadz Izzul was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner. The visitors'
Enrique Baena took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 76 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for Grilled. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Bhavya Panigrahi reluctantly made way for
Gilbert Webb on the pitch. As
Bhavya Panigrahi exited the field,
Chan Ze Han volunteered to be the new set pieces taker. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 0 - 6. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 77 percent of possession.
Most important Palace player was
Seow Lee Xin.
Ranganathan Padukone turned in a dismal performance, however. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han.
Damian Hutter was a disappointment, however.
