Grilled 5 - 3 Abbeydale

Weather conditions were fairly good for football at the stadium today. They fielded: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Webb - Ferzan, Mohammad Harun, Keng Chuan, An Keng, Trindade - Xin Seng, Ze Han, Parvathaneni.

Starters: Jolley - Spooren, de Sousa - Usuman, O'Kennedy, Sena, Dengby, Gerth - MacColl, Murnane, Tate.

The teams stopped and stared at each other - it was like they were looking in a mirror, since they both lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their extra-terrestrial (16) ability to great effect. Grilled had a good opportunity to take the lead as Lim An Keng came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of Gavin Jolley. After 18 minutes, Abbeydale's Nino Spooren made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. After 29 minutes of play, Moey Xin Seng evened things up for Grilled with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 1 - 1. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Chan Ze Han, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1! Gavin Jolley was caught napping as Bhavya Panigrahi lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 37 minutes on the clock after Lewis MacColl's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Abbeydale player a yellow card though. 2 - 1 was the score after the first half. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! 46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Bilal Mohammad Harun gave Chad Thach a quick hug as he left the field. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors. Aw Keng Chuan was able to squirm through the central defense after 51 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 3 - 1. Grilled solidified their lead at the 52 minute mark, as Aw Keng Chuan snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 4 - 1. With the clock showing 60 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Moey Xin Seng looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Chia Kwang Tse, though he would have liked to continue. As the 60 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Kalki Parvathaneni reluctantly made way for Gandhik Chitre. What in the world was Chad Thach thinking, the crowd mumbled, as he suddenly tried an insane pass through his own defense – it ended up right in front of Abbeydale's Johnson Usuman, who easily put the ball in the net for 4 - 2 after 64 minutes. Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their player Nino Spooren scored to make it 4 - 3 after 65 minutes, following a good pass from the right. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. Feeling like a boy about to meet his girlfriend's father for the first time, the inexperienced Grilled struggled to maintain their level of play after 89 minutes. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Paulino Trindade bringing the lead up to 5 - 3. The match ends 5 - 3. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Most important Grilled player was Chan Ze Han. I can't remember Gilbert Webb ever having a worse night than he just had. The most outstanding Abbeydale player was without a doubt Lewis MacColl. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Alberto Sena seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
