Karak 5 - 0 Grilled
The rain was pouring down at the stadium today. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The following players had been selected:
Pasha -
Jaghbeer,
Yago -
Samarasinghe,
Shafeeu,
bin Hj Adib,
Lee,
Khalifa -
Teja,
Yan Tun,
Granheim.
The following players took the field:
Germanakos -
Panigrahi,
Webb -
An Keng,
Mohammad Harun,
Keng Chuan,
Parvathaneni,
Trindade -
Ze Han,
Xin Seng,
Chitre.
A 2-5-3 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Grilled clearly preferred using their extra-terrestrial (16) ability to attack in the middle today. The game had been going for 31 minutes when
Najib bin Hj Adib came in on the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to put away the 1 - 0 goal, giving Karak the lead. The visitors almost came back with an equalizer 33 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but
Lim An Keng didn't get enough power behind the attempted finish to seriously challenge the keeper. 37 minutes had passed when Karak put themselves up 2 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Jairam Teja, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. 2 - 0 was the halftime score. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Lionsclub Pfusistan tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Kalki Parvathaneni reluctantly made way for
Chia Kwang Tse. With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Bilal Mohammad Harun looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Chad Thach, though he would have liked to continue. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors.
Eant Yan Tun was able to squirm through the central defense after 47 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 3 - 0.
Lim An Keng had a good opportunity to reply with a break through the middle, but the home team's goalkeeper
Ziaul Pasha just wouldn't be beat. 50 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as
Jairam Teja ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 4 - 0 for Karak. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Teo Chuan Yong came on for
Moey Xin Seng.
Gandhik Chitre's fine footwork caused nothing but headaches for
Saleh Abolhassan Jaghbeer. The keeper wasn't fooled however, and confidently scooped up the ball. Karak added another goal to their lead as
Jairam Teja struck home for 5 - 0 after an attack from the left set him up unmarked in front of the keeper. At that,
Jairam Teja was noted down for a hattrick! The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 5 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Karak would have 51 percent possession in this half was spot on!
The most outstanding Karak player was without a doubt
Mats Granheim. I can't remember
Ziaul Pasha ever having a worse night than he just had. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Gilbert Webb today.
