Grilled 7 - 0 Palace

The 32226 spectators at The Cooking Pot were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Oktay Kibar was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ken Luscombe and Gotthard Espenhain. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. The following players took the field for Grilled: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Hutter - Ferzan, Thach, Khairul, An Keng, Baena - Xin Seng, Ze Han, Parvathaneni.

Palace's lineup was: Izzul - Liang Kok, Shi Yeow, Lai Choon, Meng Wan - Cheng, Cheng Hui, Jian Long, Padukone - Lee Xin, Mohd Amirul Hadi.

The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Grilled Birds went for 2-5-3 while Cloud Palace has decided to play a 4-4-2 lineup. Grilled used their titanic (15) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 8 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from Chan Ze Han, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Grilled's Egemen Diner Ferzan increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 16 minutes. Chan Ze Han of Grilled displayed some of his fantastic technical abilities when he brought the ball down neatly using his instep before nutmegging the bewildered Leong Cheng Hui and smashing an unstoppable shot past the goalkeeper to make it 3 - 0. Egemen Diner Ferzan could have increased the lead after 23 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. The Grilled free kick 24 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of Moey Xin Seng, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 4 - 0! Grilled solidified their lead at the 24 minute mark, as Chan Ze Han dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 5 - 0. By then Chan Ze Han had scored three goals - a hat trick! The teams went for the halftime break at 5 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 80 percent of the ball.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Mohd Marzuki Khairul gave Chia Kwang Tse a quick hug as he left the field. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Moey Xin Seng reluctantly made way for Bilal Mohammad Harun on the pitch. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Grilled to 6 - 0 as Kalki Parvathaneni finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Chan Ze Han had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 70 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. Coming from the right, Kalki Parvathaneni almost managed to score another goal for Grilled, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper. Cheers filled the stadium as Chan Ze Han broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 7 - 0 to Grilled. The referee showed Grilled's Enrique Baena the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Ang Shi Yeow went down after twisting his right ankle after 79 minutes, and had to leave the pitch. This gave Abd Hadi Abdul Manaf a chance to take to the field instead. Seow Lee Xin was handed the Palace captain's armband. Bhavya Panigrahi would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Gilbert Webb entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 80 minutes. Bhavya Panigrahi was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that Bilal Mohammad Harun got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. The home side's Kalki Parvathaneni came close to extending the lead 81 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but Hasnain Abdul Muadz Izzul managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 7 - 0. Grilled had most of the ball, with 81 percent of possession.

Most important Grilled player was Chan Ze Han. Damian Hutter turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Palace player was without a doubt Seow Lee Xin. On the other hand, Ranganathan Padukone's play was disheartening.
