The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, ZDMS, went for a 3-5-2, while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their mythical (17) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. Was it the hair gel? Was it a gift from the gods? Either way, the faithful won't care. Soaring like a Saturn V,
Lim An Keng somehow got his head on a
Bhavya Panigrahi moonshot from the corner and buried it in the back of the net. What grace! What power! Plant the flag for Grilled, Neil Armstrong! The score is now 0 - 1. Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng made it through the home team's defense on the right hand side 9 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded net when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
Gandhik Chitre somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Grilled's lead up to 0 - 2. After 36 minutes, Grilled's
Chan Ze Han burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 3. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. A thrilling play through the middle after 41 minutes gave Grilled's
Chan Ze Han a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 4.
Paulino Trindade was doing a great job on the wing, sending in a brilliant pass to his teammates in the middle, but
Bilal Mohammad Harun seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. By working their way through the middle, ZDMS refused to be intimidated – their efforts finally led to
Camilo Machado managing to slip the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 4. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. After 44 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Chan Ze Han who increased Grilled's lead to 1 - 5. He's already scored two, and with the third,
Chan Ze Han has a hattrick! Halftime score was 1 - 5. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 57 percent of possession.
As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Kalki Parvathaneni reluctantly made way for
Chia Kwang Tse. After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Bilal Mohammad Harun off.
Chad Thach took his place. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Teo Chuan Yong came on for
Moey Xin Seng. Grilled increased the lead to 1 - 6 as
Bhavya Panigrahi scored from the penalty spot, putting the ball in the top left corner.
Chia Kwang Tse was, after 67 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper
Petar Bosna made the save. With 75 minutes played,
Chan Ze Han nearly put the visitors up by one more as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot whizzed just over the bar. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 1 - 6. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 58 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
The most outstanding ZDMS player was without a doubt
Ersin Sarp. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Petar Bosna today. Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han. I can't remember
Gilbert Webb ever having a worse night than he just had.
